Ovulation induction
In the case where ovulation is not occurring, fertility medication may be administered in order to stimulate normal follicle development. Fertility tablets (such as Letrozole) are likely to be given to stimulate ovulation. However, tablets may not always be successful. In these situations, stronger fertility injections may be administered to stimulate follicle development. As these injections are more powerful, excessive follicle growth may occur, leading to a greater probability of multiple pregnancy.
IUI
Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) is where the best quality sperm are specially picked and directly placed in the uterus during ovulation. It is a minimally invasive procedure and is done in a few minutes. There are 2 types of IUI: natural; and stimulated. Natural IUI is where insemination occurs after monitoring the natural cycle. Stimulate IUI is when insemination is combined with fertility drugs to stimulate ovulation. Stimulated IUI often has a higher chance of success. The male semen sample is taken a few hours before insemination. IUI has a much lower success rate than IVF and in some cases, it is recommended you go straight to IVF to help increase your chances of success.
